Tips for a Healthy and Happy Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time to celebrate. Try these 7 quick tips to ensure a safe, happy and healthy pregnancy.

1. Book a pregnancy yoga class
There’s nothing better than stretching when your belly is growing. Gentle exercise during pregnancy
will help to strengthen your muscles and joints, increase your stamina, boost your mood and help manage stress levels. It will also improve circulation, which will help the healing process after birth.

Now is not the best time to start an intensive exercise program, but keep up what you were doing before you became pregnant (with the exception of contact sports). Walking, swimming and prenatal yoga are all great exercises and strengthening your pelvic floor will help support the weight of your growing baby.

2. Look after your teeth
If you’re trying to conceive, take a trip to your dentist before you fall pregnant. You may not feel like having treatment once you are and it’s better to avoid dental x-rays during pregnancy.

Some women suffer from gingivitis - bleeding and swelling of the gums – when they’re pregnant. This can be caused by an increase of blood supply to your mouth as well as an increase in progesterone levels. This makes your teeth and gums more vulnerable to bacteria in plaque.

3. Treat yourself
Fancy some guilt-free shopping? Now is a great time to treat yourself to some new lingerie, especially a pregnancy or pregnancy/nursing bra. For many women their breasts grow substantially when they’re pregnant and again when their milk comes in so they need extra support. Bras with underwire are not advised as they can obstruct the developing milk ducts and have been implicated in the occurrence of mastitis (painful block ducts with flu-like symptoms). You may need to be fitted for new bras several times during your pregnancy.

4. Switch wine for water
Drinking alcohol when you’re pregnant may harm your baby so the safest and recommended option is not to drink any alcohol at all. Caffeine is thought to be okay in small amounts – around two or three cups of coffee a day maximum – and if you fancy a cup of tea always drink tea made with a filtered teabag. Herbal teas such as chamomile, peppermint (for heartburn and indigestion), fruit teas, ginger (for morning sickness) or jasmine are good alternatives to caffeinated drinks but enjoy them in moderation. If you’re really thirsty, stick to water!

5. Get someone else to clean up after kitty
If you’ve got a family cat at home it’s important to be careful how you handle and look after them when you’re pregnant. Toxoplasmosis is an infection caused by a parasite that can be carried by cats and passed through in their faeces. You may become infected by cleaning up the kitty litter or coming into contact with dirt where cats might have been, including garden soil. While cats are a common source of toxoplasmosis, the parasite can also infect birds, sheep, goats, cattle, pigs and poultry. Ask someone else to clean up after kitty for the next few months.

6. Swap heels for flats
As your bump grows your centre of gravity changes and can leave you feeling a little off-balance. Put your high heels aside and stick to flats to avoid a tumble. You may also find your feet swell towards the end of your pregnancy so stick to comfortable shoes.

7. Have a mother’s meeting
Too much advice can be overwhelming, but having a few friends who are already mums or also pregnant, can be great. Spend time with them and use each other as sounding boards as you navigate the unfamiliar territory of your first pregnancy.

Fresh tip: Avoid brushing your teeth for at least 30 minutes after you’re sick or have reflux so the enamel has time to recover. Try rinsing your mouth with water instead or rub fluoride toothpaste on your teeth. This will refresh your mouth and strengthen enamel. And don’t worry there is no truth in the old wives tale, ‘a tooth lost with every pregnancy’.

Facts About Yoga and Weight Loss

When talking about exercise and weight reduction, cardiovascular workouts such as aerobics, jogging, and machines such as the ellipse, are generally what come to mind. The purpose of exercise for weight loss is to help use-up more calories than you have ingested, in addition to burning fat to create muscle.

So for the reason that sense, yoga might not spring to mind as an exercise of choice inside your
weight-loss program. However, yoga needs a second look.

While some people believe that yoga as a physical activity is “better than nothing,” which typically burns less calories per session than various other mainstream exercise regimes, the fact is that there are three types of yoga that may give traditional aerobic exercise a run because of its money.

Vinyasa Yoga: This style can also be called flow yoga because of the way each pose smoothly flows in to the next, giving the feeling of the gliding dance. This type of yoga can be achieved slowly, but when an instructor boosts the speed of the position changes, it is really an excellent cardio workout.

Ashtanga Yoga: This is actually the perfect style of yoga not just for someone who is a type-A personality, but additionally as a great calorie-burning exercise to lose weight. It is a fast-paced, challenging, cardiovascular workout, in addition to one for stretching and toning.

Hatha Yoga: This traditional yoga style is the greatest known, and is the most popular with today’s fitness community. Just like other yoga styles, it combines stretching and breathing with great exercise.

Yoga is another well-known stress-reliever. Besides the obvious benefit of having the ability to relax and control the strain of our daily lives, this facet of yoga has a direct connect to weight-loss as well.

Recent studies have shown a correlation between stress and also the inability to lose weight on a diet regimen. The existence of a hormone called cortisol may be the culprit.

Cortisol increases as stress increases. Because so many people feel enormous stress because they try to lose weight that stress pumps out cortisol which makes the body hold on to fat; that consequently increases stress and the cycle continues.

The purpose of cortisol goes back to our prehistoric ancestors who, being unsure of when their next meal will come along, when under stress, required to hold onto fat for the body to outlive.

Doing yoga to relax, possess a peaceful mindset, and release tension and stress, and therefore preventing the production of cortisol, is one of the best steps you can take for weight loss.

might be wondering how such an implausible thing is possible. Let us point out a few myths that people adhere to while maintaining their diet that instead of chucking kilos, add to them.

Having small meals throughout the day
Now there is nothing wrong with that as the motive behind this is to curb your craving for food by keeping your stomach satiated. But more often than now, women get carried away and transform these small meals into large ones. Guilty pleasure? Yeah, we guess so but while it is pleasuring you, it is flattering your flabs too. You might end up putting on 400 calories! So, if you have a chart that has all the food items you are supposed to consume neatly positioned, just blindly follow it and you will get fixed.

Pep Up The Salad
It can be very distressing to gobble up all greens sometimes as they are mostly tasteless but are very helpful to reduce weight. Many a times, people add various junk to the salad to spruce it up. Now, there is no doubt that the food on your platter looks palatable but remember, it also will spruce up your calorie intake meter. No need to worry, there is a way to eat healthy and also tasty food. Sprinkle some pepper over it or garnish it with low fat stuff which has less salt and sugar and you are sorted.

Avoid Energy Boosters
Often people advise to consume chocolate bars or protein shakes to infuse instant energy in you. Now, that part of the purpose is definitely achieved by having them but apart from boosting your energy, it also boosts the calorie levels in your body as they are high on sugar and carbs. Truth be told, they don’t even work as meal supplements. So, it is wise to stay away from such energy drinks. Instead go for natural way of fueling your energy. Ways To Detox Every Day

We’re all human. We take part in the occasional (or more frequent) indulgences life provides. Even as a practicing health-fanatic-vegetarian-yogi, Imagine my entire life without my favorite glass(es) of dark
wine and dessert! Daily detox measures help counteract the less healthy items we place in our body, as well as the environmental factors that we have little control.

1. Drink hot lemon water.
Kick-start the detoxing process very first thing in the morning by drinking a mug of warm water with lemon and cayenne.

2. Possess a fresh cold-pressed juice
Do it before eating anything, which allows your body to absorb the nutrients faster. My go-to detox elixir: lemon, kale, spinach, spirulina, and ginger - the greater greens, the better!

3. Sip a detox tea.
Sip several cups of detoxifying tea blends during the day. Look for ingredients such as dandelion root, ginger, burdock and licorice root.

4. Add apple cider vinegar treatment.
Along with a host of other benefits, apple cider vinegar treatment alkalizes the body and helps detox the liver. Purchase the raw, unfiltered and organic variety.

5. Eat detoxing foods and supplements.
The liver and kidneys function as the body’s filtration system, and thus are integral to all around health and cleansing. Incorporate the next to aid in continual kidney and liver cleansing: parsley, cilantro, dandelion root, licorice root, cayenne, turmeric, red pepper, garlic, lemon, lime, grapefruit, sea vegetables (seaweed salad, nori, dulse), artichokes, beets, cruciferous vegetables, wheatgrass, spirulina, chlorella and milk thistle.

6. Eat clean.
Incorporate fiber to your diet to keep the elimination process flowing. Limit or avoid high-mercury fish for example swordfish, tuna, mackerel, shark, marlin and grouper. General rule to follow along with: larger fish typically have higher amounts of mercury. Avoid refined sugars, junk foods, alcohol, caffeine and non-organic fruits and vegetables.

7. Sweat.
Sweating is vital for expelling toxins. Use an infrared sauna, that helps in removing heavy metal toxins kept in fat tissues. Take a Yoga class - or any yoga class! Exercise with extra layers to increase body temperature and perspiration.

Benefits of Having an Oily Skin Face

With proper care and the right skin care products you will see for yourself that it is good to have oily skin. All those remedies and products that tend to dry your face, to lose its natural shine, or over-exfoliate to treat
clogged pores can sometimes make matters worse for you. So, instead of complaining about the cons and how hard it is to deal with your skin type, you should accept the pros of having oily skin.

Oily Skin Ages Better
Does oily skin mean less wrinkles? Yes, that’s right! Women with oily skin show signs of aging and develop wrinkles at a much slower rate than any other skin types. All the same, it is a well-known fact that oily skin face manages to gracefully camouflage all those creases and fine lines that appear with age, thus you’ll look younger and need not spend huge amounts of money on anti-aging creams and serum treatments. Use a gentle cleanser formulated for your skin type.

The Fresh Look
The natural moisture on your face should be viewed as one of the pros of having oily skin and not as a nuissance. Moisture gives you a natural, healthy glow, which other skin types need to apply products to achieve. You might think it compromises the durability of your foundation and makeup, but if you choose products specifically designed for oily skin.

A Protective Barrier
Unlike any other skin types, oily skin acts as a protective barrier against all sorts of environmental attacks: wind and dust can’t dry your face and sun rays won’t easily penetrate into your skin layers. Your natural moisture is also your protection during winter season, when it is actually better to have oily skin: no sores and irritations are just a few of the benefits of an oily skin face.

An Evenly Glowing Tan
Although we are advised against sunbathing, you can make the most of the benefits of oily skin on your face: arm yourself with Philosophy Here Comes The Sun, an age-defense water-resistant sunscreen for oily face, with a broad-spectrum and spend an hour or so in the morning or afternoon sun. Your tan will have a natural glowing color, and you don’t need to worry about irritation and other skin related problems.
